The Philippines’ Department of Energy has awarded contracts four small hydropower plants being developed in Negros Occidental by the Basic Energy Corporation.
According to the company, the contracts will cover the construction, installation, operation and maintenance of the 2-MW Puntian 1, 2-MW Puntian 2, 3-MW Laogo 2 and 2-MW Talabaan hydroelectric projects.
The agreement gives Basic Energy a two-year, non-extendable period to conduct pre-development works. Upon being declared commercially active, Basic Energy will operate them, per the contract, for 25 years.
The Philippines have been a hotbed for hydroelectric project development in recent months.
HydroWorld.com reported in January that Hydrotec will develop eight small projects near Manila, while the country had declared seven proposals for the country’s Western Visayas region as being commercially feasible this past November.
