BEC bags wind energy project

June 30, 2023

Basic Energy Corp. (BEC) will proceed to expand its renewable energy (RE) portfolio following the award of a wind energy service contract (WESC) from the Department of Energy (DOE).

“Basic Energy officially adds another Wind Power Project to its pipeline of Renewable Energy [RE] projects as the Department of Energy [DOE] approved the Wind Energy Service Contract [WESC] application by the Corporation,” it said in a disclosure Thursday.

The proposed project is an onshore wind power plant located in San Joaquin and Miag-ao, Iloilo and Hamtic Antique with a total land area of interest of approximately 13,932 hectares covering 172 RE blocks. The said plant is expected to generate a capacity of at least 150-175 megawatts (MW) based on the preliminary study done by an independent party.

With the approval and signing of the WESC, Basic Energy will commence to deploy its resources for the wind resource assessment campaign to determine the precise wind regime in the said area. It is expected to complete the pre-development stage in a 5-year period as committed under the said service contract.

In October last year, Basic Energy formed a new RE unit—Basic Renewables Energy Corp.—which will handle the e-charging/solarization project. It has also earlier teamed up with French-multinational oil company Total and independent players such as EcoOil and Filpride-USA88 for its initial solarization and e-transport project.

The solarization of 1,500 retail stations coupled with complementary operation of 3,000 electric buses is envisioned by the company as part of its Green Energy E-Transport Project.

Under the project, the company is installing solar panels in the gas stations where energy could be stored in power storage and charging facilities that will power up e-buses.
