MANILA, Philippines – The consortium operating the Mabini geothermal project in Batangas has started drilling an exploratory well, which will determine the steam resource available in the service contract.
The consortium, composed of Basic Energy Corp. and Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp., spudded an exploratory well with a minimum depth of 1,500 meters, which aims to determine the temperature and other qualities of the steam resource.
The consortium said drilling will take about three months to complete.
The Mabini Geothermal Service Contract No. 8, located in San Teodoro, Mabini, Batangas, covers 3,841 hectares.
Based on the pre-feasibility study, the area is projected to yield a power capacity between 20MW and 60MW.
In April, the Department of Energy (DOE) issued the go signal to commence drilling at the Mabini geothermal service contract.
